Triumph for Lenny and Adam Leow
Fourteen-year-old Adam leow one of our junior players,
created a new record at Croydon Table Tennis League annual tournament.
He reached three of the finals and won two of them,
including the doubles event with his father as his partner.
In the singles final a previous champion, Rev Russell
Bates, met Adam and took the first game 12-10. Adam took the second game 11-9,
but after showing a great courage, narrowly last the third game 12-14. Eventually
Bates won the forth-game 11-3.
Defending champion, Adam Leow, met Nigel Marshall, this
game consisting of 21 points of two serves each only, with variation of the new
points system. Adam dominated the table with a clear 21-11 victory, thereby retaining
his handicap title.
Top seeds Lee Nicholls and Rev Bates met the Leow father
and son partnership, who took the first game. Greater concentration by
Nicholls/Bates saw them make a recovery to win the second game.
Determination and great teamwork by the Loews over the
next two games proved to be too much for the seeds, resulting in an outstanding
win for father and son.
A new milestone was established with a result of 11-8,
7-11, 11-8, and 11-5.
Adam has made rapid progress during the past three years,
due to train mostly with his father Lenny who has great patients, but not
entirely without arguments.
Adam and his team mates, Hwan Min Wong and Kevin Haste
will be competing in the Junior British League in the second division this
season.
