PREMIER DIVISION - WEEK TWO

WHAT DOES JEROME JONAH HAVE TO DO TO BE THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Two weeks into the season and the number of undefeated teams is down to two (London Progress and Darlington) but I doubt if either of these sides will mind if this week's main plaudits pass them by. There can be little doubt that JAGS's Jerome Jonah produced the week's most eye-catching performance as he stayed undefeated in his team's 4-10 defeat against Darlington I. Ranked a relatively lowly No 93 nationally he quite sensationally got the better of Eddie Smith (ranked 37), Andrew Wilkinson (No 50) and then Ian McLean (No 74); a fantastic afternoon's work. Even more remarkable his wins were all obtained in the fifth set. Without their top two players Lorestas Trumpauskas and Clive Carthy JAGS were unable to capitalise on this success and John Hilton weaved his own brand of magic as he took his three singles 3-0. The Player-of-the-Match Award was shared on this occasion as the efforts of Hilton and Jonah could not be separated by the Match Referee. However this particular scribe's bias seems rather more clear cut!
